Portland's Viso beverages find thirsty clientele

Dial the number on a bottle of Viso and you'll get the Portland beverage maker's 32-year-old owner. "You can't call the number on a can of Pepsi and have the president answer the phone," said Alex Ilica, who picks up whenever his iPhone chimes, day or night. "I never know what I'll get."

Such as one young man's query on a recent Friday night: Does Viso mix well with tequila?

Absolutely, Ilica assured him. That's one way to get your vitamins.

Viso Beverage Co. is an emerging player in the highly competitive world of vitamin-fortified and caffeinated waters. The company, whose first batches came out of a church kitchen in 2000, reached $1 million in sales last year and expects to hit $1.5 million this year.
